I'm not well enough versed in the technical side of server maintenance to do anything other than assure you all that the engineering department will be working on ironing out these and other kinks over the coming days. Thanks in advance for your patience!

Growing Pains
Some of you may have noticed an occasional delay between your browser's request for a FineTunedMac page and the server's response. This morning, we were down altogether for a short period of time. Apologies for any inconvenience.

Hie yourselves over to Fine Tuned Mac and sign up!
There are still a few things needing to be set up, but the Forums are in place and we expect them to be open for your perusal some time later today (August 4th in the States).

Progress Report
Word has it that the UBB.threads software has been successfully installed, and we're now awaiting the setting up of some actual forums. This make take some time, and there are a few placeholders in the software which still need to be replaced by content we create, but it's probably safe to say that we'll be up and running some time tomorrow (August 4th in the States).

Just to Clarify...
Your offers of monetary support are all noted and appreciated.
The main financial issue at the outset was simply the mechanism by which the software license would be purchased. That has been taken care of by one generous individual in the interest of expediting the process by eliminating the collection step. Debates are currently underway as to whether the rest of us will be allowed to share this cost retroactively or not.
In the meantime, though, no one should feel as if they're missing the boat by not having figured out how to make a donation; with this one exception, nobody has made a donation.
Because monetary contributions raise issues beyond the simple mechanics of collection and distribution -- such as what sort of say, if any, a contributor may be entitled to in policy decisions -- it's probably best if we all concentrate for now on getting this operation up and running, and discuss those issues later.

Fine Tuned Mac
The domain name finetunedmac.com has been registered.
I'm not sure whether that's serverspeak for Fine Tuned Mac or Fine-tuned Mac, even though the name was my suggestion. The semanticist in me says the latter, but the long-time Googler in me says the former, since punctuation is often a source of confusion in search strings.
And finetunedmac.com is already parked at GoDaddy, awaiting the procurement of software.

The Purpose of this Blog
As of this writing, the MacFixIt Forums are scheduled to become a read-only archive in less than three days. There's been some discussion about creating a new home for those who aren't ready to give up MFIF's unique blend of thoughtful Mac troubleshooting and friendly, flame-free (usually!) camaraderie, but the locking of the linked thread indicates that continuing that conversation at MFIF may no longer be practical.
Hence, I've started this blog for the purpose of keeping folks who might be wondering what's going on informed of any pertinent developments.
Update: it appears the locking of the linked thread may have been inadvertent (not that that makes the need for an alternate source for new information any less pressing).
