The Purpose of this Blog

As of this writing, the MacFixIt Forums are scheduled to become a read-only archive in less than three days. There's been some discussion about creating a new home for those who aren't ready to give up MFIF's unique blend of thoughtful Mac troubleshooting and friendly, flame-free (usually!) camaraderie, but the locking of the linked thread indicates that continuing that conversation at MFIF may no longer be practical.

Hence, I've started this blog for the purpose of keeping folks who might be wondering what's going on informed of any pertinent developments.

Update: it appears the locking of the linked thread may have been inadvertent (not that that makes the need for an alternate source for new information any less pressing).

  3. Harvey Rubinstein, aka Pendragon, has sent private emails to me, Nessuk, Mississauga and Tacit. I sent him Artie's address and a link to Virtual1's email. Harv's message is:

My thanks to all of you re your expressions of interest in a new/
    replacemnt MFI forum.

I will try to maintain a list of all those who share our thoughts and
wish to contribute as they see fit.

As this list matures, I will share it with all, so they may correspond
directly with others. Initially I’ll send the list weekly, but if I
need do it more often, then I will.

If you see that I’ve missed someone, please let me know.

    Best of cheers,

    Harv (AKA Pendragon)

You mods have access to everyone's email, at least for the present, so perhaps you could send all the requisite addresses to Harv. Let's keep these wonderful forums going!

  4. Hi, Jon

The moderators do not have access to email addresses. In addition, MFIF information about members is private and cannot be shared.

    Dianne.

  7. Test message....first blog, be patient. Hoping to get the name right.

This was supposed to be 'ryck'. Although I've changed the info at Google, it pulls up the Google registration name. How do I fix this?

    Thanks

    ryck

  8. I'm not sure exactly what you fixed at Google, but AFAICT it uses the string before '@gmail.com' as your username for this blog. I worked around this by creating a new aol account with the desired 'nickname'. Luckily, mine was still available.

  10. It appears finetunedmac.com is where it's going, courtesy of Tacit.

    I'll be around. :)

  11. This is all great. I left a note at MacFixit for Tacit asking how to chip in...but that may not be fair as he is likely to be a tad busy this weekend.

He mentioned that a lot of people have stepped up, which I assume to mean they have chipped in. If so, how do I?

  12. Thanks for launching this, dk; I'm beyond pleased to be aboard. :)

I'm also pleased to see participation by the MFIF Mods who I feared would be MIA.

I've got some time, much inclination, and a few bucks waiting for this project to gel and take on a direction.
